Description

GravNet - Searching for High Frequency Gravitational Waves with a Global Detector Network

Location: University of Mainz, Germany

Date: Thursday, 26th of June 2025 to Friday, 27th of June 2025

The idea of searching for high frequency gravitational waves has recently received significant attention. GravNet (Global Network of Cavities to Search for Gravitational Waves) is a novel experimental scheme enabling the search for gravitational waves with MHz frequencies and above, which could be caused for example by primordial black hole mergers. The scheme is based on synchronous measurements of signals from several experimental setup at distant locations. Although signatures of gravitational waves may be present as identifiable signals in a single cavity, it is highly challenging to distinguish them from noise. By analysing the correlation between signals from multiple, geographically separated cavities, it is not only possible to increase substantially the signal over noise ratio, but also to investigate the nature and the source of those gravitational wave signatures.

This is the first international meeting of GravNet, aiming to extend the collaboration across the globe. We will discuss how to optimally setup the network, design the underlying technical infrastructure as well as how to integrate as many experimental sites as possible. The workshop will be hosted at the University of Mainz, Germany. The participation is free of any registration fees. Special funds to support the participation of junior researchers might become available.
